Project365 | Week 21

Project 365 | Week 21 Wrap Up

Week 21 of my Project365 on Flickr was about daily moments. I hadn’t planned it that way, but Jack came down with a wicked cold/flu/misery bug. We had to slow down, amp up the TLC and take in lots of books and Scooby Doo movies. Above are three photos from our week.

1. Beans, our sweet dog, never left Jack’s side during the hardest part.
2. Quiet time on the couch with Mommy + Jack.
3. On the mend. Jack’s first foray outside after being bedridden.

Thankfully, he’s fully recovered. Today is his seventh birthday. We plan to celebrate at the park with family and Daddy’s RC airplane.

What’s a Project365? It’s a personal commitment to make photography an everyday event. Essentially it’s a photo a day for a year, forcing me to slow down, learn my camera and see the world with an artistic eye.

Project365 | Week 20

It’s week 20 of my Project365 on Flickr and my third week of Clickin Moms Rock Your Camera 101 class. This week’s assignment was to find great light, use aperture for artistic effect and attempt bokeh. Bokeh is the blurred effect in the first image. There is a theme among these three photos. They are things I find in the yard. Apple blossoms, weeds and my husband with his beloved John Deere. Hee hee.

I’m particularly fond of the photo of Pete. He was in the garage (great light) before heading off to work. He let me torture him with a photo shoot. I love how it captures his joy and personality outside of his Daddy roll. Our kids are well documented, but my husband isn’t. It’s fun to show him off, too!

Project365 | Week 19

Project365 | Week 19

It’s week 19 of my Project365 on Flickr and my second week of Clickin Moms Rock Your Camera 101 class. This week we learned about focus, metering and white balance. It was a lot to take in. My brain is a little achy from thinking so hard. The flower and the dog photos are SOOC (straight out of the camera). The photo of Kate was taken before the lesson. I lightened it in photoshop.

Why did I choose these photos to share this week? Because. They. Make. Me. Smile.

Project 365 | Week 18

It’s week 18 of my Project365 on Flickr and one third of the year has gone by. I’m thrilled I’ve stayed committed to my 365, but I’m starting to notice everything I do wrong. Wonky color, bad composition, harsh shadows. I’ve decided it’s time to take a class. Monday I began Clickin Moms Rock Your Camera 101 class. The goal of the course is to shoot great images straight out of the camera (SOOC).

The first week has brought me several a-ha moments. Above are three images from our first assignment. We are “focusing” on the exposure triangle. Our assignment was to get our camera’s meter (I didn’t know my camera had a meter. Ha!) to zero by manipulating the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. My buddy Kermit was my model. While I was pleased with my results, I did brighten them for the blog.

Project365 | Week 17

Project365 | Week 17

Week 17 of my Project365 on Flickr was full of nostalgia. It began with an amazing Sunday spent working and playing in the yard. Later in the week, I went on school field trip with Jack. Stepping onto the School Bus was like walking into a time capsule. It’s incredible how the colors, smells and textures of a school bus can bring back your childhood. Lastly, I captured a photo a Jack’s most beloved stuffed animal. Elvis, a baby gift, is losing his fur and has a hard time holding his head up, but the camera just loves him.

Project365 | Week 16

Week 16 Wrap Up

Week 16 of my Project365 on Flickr was more sun, snow, wind, repeat. Instead of boring you, I thought I’d highlight my favorite iPhone photo app. Shake It Photo, a Polaroid style app, works like an instant camera. Aim, shoot and watch it develop. You can even speed up the processing by shaking your phone. Your photos are developed with a nostalgic seventies-esque finish.

It has been a lifesaver on days I haven’t had time to think about my 365 or when photo ops present themselves and I don’t have my camera on hand. Above are a few of my favorites from the last few months.

1. 109/365 Focus | 2. 56/365 Born 1934 | 3. 51/365 Abe Lincoln | 4. 50/365 Wind in My Fur

For more great images, check out the Shake It Photo Flickr group. There are some surprising shots in there. Shake It Photo is available for 99 cents through the App Store. It’s the best paid app I have on my phone.

Project365 | Week 15

Project365 | Week 15

Week 15 of my Project365 on Flickr was spring break for my kids. It was filled with food, fun and family. My work life came to a screeching halt, but I love the photos I captured. It felt so easy because it was my only obligation. We enjoyed our much needed down time. Now we’re rejuvenated and ready to get down to business.

Project365 | Week 14

Week 14 of my Project365 on Flickr was a lovely transition from winter to spring. The week began with a cleansing snowfall and finished with beautiful peach tree blossoms. My beloved wooden frog sat on the porch to watch it all unfold. Welcome Spring!

Wedding Photos!

Our family and friends are giddy over the photos from my sister’s wedding. Arizona wedding photographer Larry Reeves did an amazing job capturing the feeling of the day, the playfulness of Adam and Mel, and the unique details of their wedding.

Larry posted several images on his blog. There were so many amazing details he had to make two posts! The first post focuses on the ceremony and the Wright House where the wedding took place. He captured all the details from the flowers to the fabulous fingerprint wedding bands. The flower girl and the adorable boy in the bow tie are my kids and the handsome officiant is my husband.

The second post highlights the reception, dancing, pies and more details. Mel and Adam chose to skip the traditional cake and receiving line. Instead they opted for pie which they served to each guest. It was incredibly personal and sweet. The pie toppers were designed and made by Melanie. She and Adam are avid birders making the birds a perfect reflection of them.

It was a great day for everyone. Larry and his 2nd photographer Matt Sloan were a joy to spend such a special day with.

Project365 | Week 13

Week 13 of my Project365 on Flickr was spent traveling to Phoenix, celebrating my sister’s wedding then traveling home. The wedding was a huge success. My sister was absolutely beautiful, my husband was sweet, charming and funny as the officiant and everyone had a fantastic time.

I didn’t take many wedding photos. As the matron of honor, I was busy thinking about other details. Plus I’m a disaster when it comes to photos in chaotic situations. Thank goodness for professionals! Larry Reeves, her photographer, was a joy to be around. When he posts the wedding to his blog, I’ll be sure to share the link.

Above are a few of my images from our week. Clockwise from the upper left:

1. 90/365 Playtime 2. 92/265 Pete + Kate 3. 94/365 Long Ride Home 4. 91/365 Wedding Shower
