The Meetup | February
I bumbled around a bit in January. Many of my goals took a left turn, but all in all, I’ve still got forward momentum. Here is a quick review of last month’s goals:
{Goals for January 2010}
- Send out first press release on January 18 :: Ack. Temporarily sidetracked. I ended up focusing on improvements to my photography and product staging, a fall out from this goal. The release will be delayed by a month, but I believe it will be worth the wait. Photos are my storefront. I need to get it right. An excuse? Perhaps.
- Eliminate riff – raff from Etsy shop :: Yeah! I feel so much better.
- Close 1000 Markets Shop :: Done.
- Begin Blogging Class January 18 :: I started taking a blogging class taught by Holly Becker of Decor8. After the first two weeks, I’ve gained unexpected perspective about who I am as a blogger and an artist as well as great insight about the direction I want to take the blog. It’s very exciting.
- Create nine stationery lines from existing artwork :: Started working to streamline 9 stationery lines. Each line will include a thank you note set, personalized note card, invitation and photo announcement. I’m amped to have a bit more structure in my product lines.
- Meet with one boutique owner :: I chickened out. Will wo-man up and just do it.
- Begin documenting sales/expenses via spreadsheet :: Still learning, but the structure is in place.
{Goals for February 2010}
- Send out first press release
- Write a business plan :: Taking Bakery’s e-course Six Weeks to a Tastier Business which starts today. Thankfully a business plan is first on the curriculum. I’m going to need some hand holding to get it done.
- Continue Blogging Class :: Started. It’s fabulous.
- Complete nine stationery lines from existing artwork :: 50% done with this.
- Meet with one boutique owner :: Any words of wisdom or pep talks are welcome.
- Do my taxes :: Meh.
It’s going to be a big month. I’ve sharpened my pencils and I’m ready to learn. Lately I feel I’m in over my head when it comes to the business end of things. I stress over how best to manage my books, approach PR, wholesaling and a myriad of other things. It’s officially time for me to address the issues I’ve been avoiding. Wish me luck!

Hi Angie, great goals there. I’m afraid I don’t have any advice about meeting with a boutique owner except ‘be yourself’ and just try to relax. I hope things go well for you.
Isa x
great list for feb! your blogging class sounds awesome and so excited to see you will be part of the Bakery class too, I signed up also after hearing about it during last month’s meetup! good luck for feb, sounds like you are off to a great start for the new year!

So glad to hear the class is working for you! I don’t have any advice for meeting with a boutique owner, but how about this – we’ll all kick your a$$ (figuratively speaking of course!) in the comments next month if you DON’T do it – so DO IT!
[of course, this is meant to be helpful, so if I've offended you, please ignore me!] [I do know that I powered through a couple of things last night just so I could mark them done on the post this morning, so the meetup accountability is helpful to me!]
So excited by your February list! And I am going to need propping up on the Biz Plan thing too, so I’m right with you. AND I am so with Candy on the meeting with the boutique owner! Do it Do it Do it!
How cool to take a class on blogging – looks like you’re already finding your voice here!
My advice when meeting a boutique owner: go when they aren’t busy, make sure your product will help their sales, and go on consignment if needed.
I was wondering if I should take a blogging class. I’ll look into the blogging class you’re taking & see if there are any future classes available. Your goals sound great & with dedication & determination, you’ll be able to pull off each & every thing off your list. I love that you’re preparing yourself for each step you’re taking so I’m sure you’ll do great when meeting with the owner. Good luck this month! `=O)
I love reading your goals and future plans each month, my interwebs sister! Our similar journeys and struggles do so much for my morale. You do put me to shame with NINE stationery lines… can’t wait to see them.
Glad the blogging class has been worth it and I hope Baking your Business is equally as satisfying. As I’ve mentioned, your 365 photography is fabulous. That pencil cup… LOVE!
Good luck with all your goals, Angie. I’ll be keeping tabs on your wholesale/boutique shop goal. Sounds like Candy and I will kick some tail next month if we don’t hear anything
Angie:
I came by your post through our thread on Etsy Greetings. I have to say, this goal post is very inspiring. I’ve been trying to get organized myself and there are so many things I want to get done! Perhaps a goal post of my own would be good, just so I see them up there every day. I have tons of list but those get lost here and there. Lots of luck with meeting up with a boutique owner. I’ve been trying to muster up the courage to go to some boutiques too but I’m trying to structure my lines a bit more too. Hope to see a successful February for you!
I agree that taking great photos is better than rushing your press release. (Or that’s what I’m telling myself as I’m working on photos and holding up all sorts of things)
Wow- that blogging class sounds so interesting. I can’t wait to hear some more about it.
Great list for February- good luck!
